Initial Notes:

A good way to use this book is as an Instruction Manual.  One would not read it sequentially, as if a novel or educational textbook.  You could read it like any cooking book.  Hmm ... what do I want to cook-up??  How about adding many computers to AD at once!  Let me lookup the recipe for it.

Covers all the buzz words and how they are associated with AD:

Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), multi-master replication, Domain Name System (DNS), Group Policy, the Active and Directory Schema.

Target Audience:

If you asked my wife, she would say it is for type 2 people.  Apparently that is the type of person who likes to tinker.  One who will always look for a better way to accomplish something.  A very task oriented person.  The theory isn't as important as getting the job done.

It is for the System Administrators who love to script.

About the Author:

Robbie Allen has authored or co-author 8 books.  He has also been an Editor or Reviewer for many other books.

Swell guy.  He is a fun guy in which to go on a road trip.

Works or worked for Cisco.  Robbie recently lived in Boston to take classes at MIT.

He was one of the speaker for the best User Group in the Boston area - BAWSUG.

Microsoft MVP for 2006.

Conclusion:

The book is a tool to solve problems.  Good for the beginner using the UI, and the expert who wants to script everything.
