Spyware - what you don't know CAN hurt you by Clyde Johnson

Want to see activity on your ports?  netstat -a
Anti-spyware option? http://www.winpatrol.com

Some available tools include: WinsockXPFix.exe, StartupCPL, DCOMbob, and ShootTheMessenger

Good sites include:

www.sysinternals.com is where regmon and Filemon are located. The key to these two utilities is the use of the filter function to filter out processes that you do NOT wish to track.

www.blackviper.com is the site that George mentioned about turning off services.

http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/winxp_services/print.shtml is the site I mentioned for services. (I think I like George's site better. but two sources is better than just 1.)

February 5th, 2003:  Stormtest.exe  is an excellent (and free) test utility from Canopus
Canopus makes higher-end, real-time DV video editing components that mandate a high sustained data throughput.
This utility was originally designed to determine the TOTAL sustained read & write throughput of a hard drive system
and associated SCSI and PCI buss architectures.  Stormtest does not test hard drive seek times in a granular fashion
but it does it's best to swamp the system with as much data as possible to determine data saturation levels.
This utility will obviously have other generic benchmark applications with the world of servers and very high-end workstations.

The "overlay test" only determines existing video card compatibility with the Canopus video capture cards.
Presumably, this is not of general interest outside the domain of the Canopus product family.
